Kill the Messenger (2014) is a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat crime thriller based on the true story of American journalist Gary Webb. Jeremy Renner stars as Webb, who uncovers the alleged role the CIA plays in importing crack cocaine into the U.S. to fund Nicaraguan contra rebels. Webb is warned to stay away from the story but persists and publishes it under the series Dark Alliance. The CIA then proceeds to launch a smear campaign against Webb who faces tremendous obstacles to keep his family and reputation intact. An inspiring watch for investigative, powerful journalism.

‘His Girl Friday’ (1940) is an amazingly fast-paced, hectic American comedy focusing on Walter Burns (played by Cary Grant) and Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell). Adapted from the play ‘The Front Page’, ‘His Girl Friday’ encapsulates the energy and drive of working at The Morning Post newspaper. Hildy is a witty, driven and sharp character who is driven to get the story and get it before anyone else. Her dedication and motivation is why she is chicstranger’s Monthly Muse also.

Eve Arnold (1912-2012) was an American photojournalist who captured a wide array of iconic images, from intimate onset photos of Marilyn Monroe to horse trainers on the plains of Mongolia. Starting her career in the 1940s working at renown publications such as Time and Life magazine, Arnold was the first woman to be admitted to the Magnum agency. She photographed stars like Jacqueline Kennedy, Joan Crawford and Dirk Bogarde, traveled worldwide and created a stunning array of photos of 21st century icons. In 2003 the Queen gave Arnold an OBE for her services to photography, and common themes Arnold refers to are poverty, birth, politics and women.

One of the first American photographers to work in China, Arnold visited China in the late 1970s just as China was opening up to the West. On assignment for The Sunday Times, despite feeling extremely ill with bronchitis, Arnold captured this stunning photo of an elderly woman in a doorway.
