Christian Louboutin x CJ Henry exhibition

DSC03057

Recently legendary shoewear designer Christian Louboutin hosted an exhibition in collaboration with Australian artist CJ Hendry entitled ‘Complementary Colours’. Hendry is known for her hyper-realist monochromatic pen art works; however this exhibition was bursting with colour as dozens of lustrous and glossy art works were dedicated to bright hues from teal to tangerine. The largest artwork came in Louboutin’s classic shade of red, while piles of red-heeled shoes decorated the gallery space and were hung in the window. Hendry’s artworks could also make great make-up palette inspirations, or provide stunning packaging inspiration too. The exhibition took place at the Fringe Club’s Anita Chan Lai-ling Gallery and was only open for a few days.

L’Arche de Noé Van Cleef & Arpels Exhibition

IMG_20170310_143201

Asia Society‘s Hong Kong Center is currently hosting a beautiful and innovative jewellery exhibition entitled L’Arche de Noé (Noah’s Ark). Iconic jewellery brand Van Cleef & Arpels are famed for their exquisite animal themed jewellery, showcased perfectly by their new Fine Jewellery Collection. The exhibition is conceptualised by American artist and set designer Robert Wilson, and recreates the ambiance of the ark through a room lined with jewel cases showing over 50 animal pairs. The room is filled with soothing calm music, until suddenly the room darkens, a crack of thunder rings out, lightning streaks fill the room and then the seas calm and its back to the calming soothing motion of waves. The multi-sensory exhibition is a fresh experience for luxury brands exhibiting their latest collections. Each piece is breathtaking in detail and is a must-see for any jewellery or fashion fan in Hong Kong. The exhibition is free entry and on until March 26th – book an entrance ticket at http://www.vcarchedenoe.hk. Here are a selection of some of my favourite pieces.

IMG_3419IMG_3833

Last week multi-brand concept store and creative lifestyle platform Konzepp launched its new retailing concept and I had a great time celebrating the opening of their new store with the team! Located at art mall K11 in Tsim Sha Tsui, the new store stocks a wide range of emerging brands including womenswear, menswear, footwear, accessories, jewellery, eyewear, timepieces, headwear, fragrances and even a dessert counter which was full of delicious cakes, pastries and craft beers for the event. Konzepp is now a branding powerhouse focusing on launching and promoting emerging brands, and prides itself on stocking a range of labels not found elsewhere in Hong Kong. You can find out more about Konzepp and its founder Geoff Tsui in my article for Business of Fashion.

For the launch event the store was transformed into a carnival, with hop-scotch and Wheel of Fortune games, a popcorn maker and even a fashion show contest. The party was heaving with local celebrities and fashionistas and I even got to try my hands at making paper chatterboxes! Here’s a photo of me and Konzepp’s DEO and founder Geoff catching up, and then with Julia from Konzepp and other party goers.

IMG_2427.JPG

Pradasphere has recently landed in Hong Kong. Located at the Central Ferry Pier number 4, the same location where Shanghai Tang hosted a fun pop-up in Mongolian yurts a few years ago, the exhibition explores Prada’s universe. Showcasing dozens of outfits and accessories from Prada’s extensive archive, the exhibition is divided into six key areas; Origins, Evolution, Typologies, Specimens, Construction and Observation. A highlight is an interactive display which shows campaign images, lookbook shots, fashion films and iconic advertisement images. Running to December 5th be sure to check it out if you are in town.

Fendi Exhibition at Landmark

IMG_2318.JPG

Fendi recently hosted a pop-up exhibition to celebrate the opening of their refurbished Landmark flagship store. Located right inside one of Hong Kong’s glitziest shopping malls, the exhibition entitled “Fendi: Un Art Autre” explored the brand’s heritage and showcased key items from the luxury fur label’s archive. Karl Lagerfeld‘s sketches were displayed alongside a genuine working table covered in fur pelts as well as a wall covered in the brand’s most iconic handbags. Interactive boards allowed visitors to delve deeper into the brand’s history and the design process behind each garment on display. Following on the footsteps of recent exhibitions by brands such as Hermès, I’m sure there will be many more to come as international labels realise the power of targeting Mainland Chinese core consumers right where they are shopping.

Hermès Leather Forever exhibition at PMQ

IMG_2178.JPG

Two weeks ago Hermès opened one of the best fashion exhibitions Hong Kong has hosted in a long time. This month-long, fantastic exhibition  explores the brand’s inherent and intricate relationship with leather and is located at Hong Kong’s newest creative hub PMQ. The Leather Forever exhibition is spread over 13 rooms and showcases dozens of items from the label’s archives and workrooms. Leather hides in a multitude of colours are draped around the first room which also has a fun interactive display (see image three below) that displays the pattern of three of Hermès iconic handbags onto a leather hide. There is also a jacket designed by Jean Paul Gaultier as well as a workstation in the same room. The following rooms showcase dozens of the heritage brand’s must-have accessories such as the Kelly, horse saddles, driving gloves, luggage, travel cases, dog collars and even a motorbike covered in leather. The exhibition is full of high-tech displays and is a real visual feast, which ends on a fun note of two handbags ‘dancing’ against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s neon skyline. Only open for one more week until the 28th Sept, this is a definite must-see.
